LISTENING & SPEAKING

This is Miss Hanan, she is our Listening and Speaking lecturer for this semester. I am not gonna lie at first I thought that she is a fierce and strict lecturer. Surprisingly, she is a really nice educator and a really laid back type of person. She is very interactive and friendly around her students. While waiting for the class to start, she would have a chit chat with me and talk about fun things. That small talk before every class makes me even more excited to learn in her class. A semester being her student is filled with fun and joy while learning.
12th August 2020, our first face to face class with Miss Hanan for listening and speaking. I am so happy that we finally got to have face to face class even though it is only one class that is allowed to have face to face class session since listening and speaking not only based on theory but it is a mechanical skills for students. So it is better to be done in real life rather than virtually. I had a lot of fun because it is my first real class as a university student. We had a great learning session and we learned a lot despite the short period of time.

The phonemic chart is probably the first thing that I stumbled upon when I am learning this subject. It looks familiar as it looks quite the same as the periodic table since I used to be a science stream student back in secondary school but this is way different from that. The phonemic chart shows you the set of symbols that represent all the sounds spoken in English. The phonemic chart is also useful for practicing pronunciation because it enables you to visualize the individual sounds you are having trouble within English and practice those sounds accurately. We are required to memorize and master all of the symbols and what sounds they represent. It is quite challenging for me at first but soon I get a grasp of it and able to transcribe a word.
